Готовясь к штурму немецких укреплений в секторе Пуэнт-дю-Ок (фр. Pointe du Hoc), американские рейнджеры придумали забавную штуку: карабкаться на 30-метровые скалы радости мало, так что они взяли амфибию DUKW и …прикрутили к ней пожарную лестницу нужной длины. Предполагалось, что машина выползет на пляж, выдвинет лестницу — и рейнджеры быстренько выскочат по лестнице к не ждущим такой подлянки немцам.
Для более яркого сюрприза на верхней части лестницы установили два, а затем и три ручных пулемета M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifles (BAR). Появившийся из под обрыва американец должен был сразу начать удивлять насмерть с двух рук. Но, мало этого, емкости магазинов BAR показалось мало, и в финальной версии установили три авиационных пулемета Льюиса с дисками по 97 патронов каждый.

Однако, несмотря на всю проработку, в реальной операции вышло немного не так. Пляжи завалило обломками скал и машины не смогли подойти на требуемую для забрасывания лестниц дистанцию. Штурмовать скалы пришлось с тросометами. Из четырех машин только одна смогла поработать немного в режиме огневой поддержки, и всё.
