Данное устройство известно также под названием прованские (они широко использовались во французском регионе Прованс) или канадские скважины, представляют они из себя простые геотермальные системы кондиционирования воздуха. Прибор работает по принципу тепловой инерции, он регулирует температуру воздуха, используемого в помещениях. Эта система почти не потребляет электроэнергию(электричество используется только для работы вентилятора), поэтому после установки кондиционирование воздуха в доме обходится значительно дешевле.Принцип работы «канадского колодца» предельно прост — рядом с домом, под землей прокладываются трубы на глубине от 1,5 до 2,5 метров. С одной стороны трубы выходят в дом, с другой стороны они выходят на воздух — таким образом, конструкция напоминает вентиляционные шахты.Зимой, даже в сильный мороз, земля на такой глубине никогда не промерзает, а остается относительно теплой, ее температура колеблется от +5 до +8 градусов. Воздух, засасываемый вентилятором, прежде чем попасть в дом, проходит по трубам теплообменника под землей и нагревается на несколько градусов.В зимние месяцы наружный воздух холодный. Температура на глубине два метра выше, чем температура поверхности, поэтому, когда холодный наружный воздух проходит через подземные трубы, он нагревается. Стоит сказать, что подобная система наиболее эффективна для кондиционирования воздуха летом. Так как температура поступающего воздуха имеет температуру около +10 градусов, что естественно недостаточно для отопления, зимой эту систему рациональнее использовать для отопления гаража, веранды или различных хозяйственных построек.
